PETALING JAYA: The Islamic development department (Jakim) has revoked 3,068 halal certificates as of yesterday for non-compliance with Malaysian halal certification requirements and standards.
According to Jakim halal management division director Muhyidin Aziz@Saari, the offences included serious failures to fulfil shariah or technical standards by halal-certified premises, as outlined under clause 32 of the Malaysian Halal Certification Manual 2020, Harian Metro reported.
Muhyidin said Jakim and the Islamic religious authorities in the various states constantly monitor and enforce the law against the misuse of the halal logo.
He said information on regulation breaches is routinely obtained from reports and proactive enforcement.

Read more “Certifications can be suspended and later revoked if the holders fail to take corrective action within the stipulated period, indicating a lack of commitment as a certificate holder.
"In cases of major non-compliance, certifications can be revoked immediately during monitoring," he was quoted as saying.
However, Muhyidin said the department found that compliance with halal certification requirements has been increasing.
He attributed this to constant monitoring and enforcement, showing the industry’s seriousness and awareness of halal matters.
