LAHAD DATU: Jalan Silam, along the Lahad Datu-Tawau road, was temporarily closed to traffic for almost two hours today after a river overflowed onto the road following heavy rain.
The situation affected traffic in both directions, with some motorists unable to pass through until the water began to recede at around 6pm.
A check at the scene found that vehicles were later allowed to pass through the affected stretch slowly, while the Pan Borneo Highway project contractor widened a drainage channel to improve water flow.
District police chief ACP Dzulbahrin Ismail confirmed the incident and said police personnel were deployed to control traffic and monitor the situation.
He said vehicles were able to pass through the area by 6.30pm and advised motorists to exercise caution, particularly during heavy rain.
