
A major theft was reported from a house in Khalwara village near Phagwara after unidentified burglars allegedly broke into the residence and decamped with gold jewellery, silver ornaments and cash.
According to the complainant, the incident took place when family members were away visiting relatives. On returning home, the owner found the locks broken, rooms ransacked and valuables missing from the almirah. The stolen items included gold rings, earrings, silver articles and cash of Rs 22,000.
Following the complaint, Sadar Phagwara Police registered a case against unknown persons under relevant sections of BNS.
In another incident, a scooter parked outside a bank in Kapurthala was allegedly stolen by an unidentified person. The owner discovered the vehicle missing after completing work at the bank. CCTV cameras installed at the location reportedly captured the theft. A theft case has been registered and investigators are analysing CCTV footage to identify the suspect. Technical evidence is being examined while searches are underway to recover the stolen scooter.
A serious road accident was also reported in Phagwara where a pregnant woman sustained critical injuries after being hit by a speeding car while waiting near a bus stop. The victim later lost her unborn child due to the injuries suffered in the accident.
A case has been registered against the driver and investigators have begun examining evidence and witness statements to determine the circumstances that led to the accident.
