A group of armed masked robbers stormed the house of a retired colonel in Gurugram’s posh Sector 23 area in the early hours of Saturday and allegedly decamped with jewellery and cash worth lakhs after threatening the family members.
Following the incident, teams from Palam Vihar police station, the Crime Branch and a forensic team reached the spot. An FIR has been registered at Palam Vihar police station and police are examining nearby CCTV footage to identify the accused.
According to a complaint filed by Vikas Jain, son of retired Colonel CL Jain, the assailants entered the house from the rear side around 2.45 am after first turning the CCTV cameras towards the wall to conceal their identity.
The accused allegedly cut the iron grill of a window using a cutter and entered the first floor of the house. They first entered Vikas’s room and then moved to the room where his wife and daughter were sleeping.
“The robbers were armed with knives, cutters, large screwdrivers and iron pipes. Threatening the family, they took away my wife’s earrings, rings, bangles and other jewellery. They also searched the dressing table and wardrobe and took diamond rings, diamond sets, a gold mangalsutra, chains and other valuable jewellery along with some cash,” Jain said in his complaint.
He added that the robbers threatened the family members and fled around 3.15 am. The accused also took away three mobile phones belonging to the family, which were later found on the back balcony of the house. All the assailants were speaking Bengali, he alleged.
“My younger son arrived from America at 2.30 am. My wife, younger son and grandson were in the downstairs room. My elder son Vikas was upstairs with his wife and daughter. The robbers threatened to kill the family if they made any noise. I had no idea about the incident and after they left, my son came downstairs and informed me, following which I alerted the police,” retired Colonel CL Jain said.
Palam Vihar SHO Inspector Devender Maan said that a special team has been formed to investigate the matter.
“We are trying to identify the accused by scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding areas,” he added.
