- World No 1 Jannik Sinner has officially brought his 2026 tennis season to an early conclusion following medical advice to undergo treatment for an ongoing knee injury.
- The 25-year-old Italian star has been sidelined since winning his fifth grand slam title against Alexander Zverev in the Wimbledon final earlier this year.
- Sinner explained to fans that he is prioritising his long-term health and career longevity over immediate competition, ruling him out of upcoming key tournaments such as the Shanghai Masters and Paris Masters.
- The decision means Sinner will be unable to defend his title at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin this November, placing his world No 1 ranking at serious risk of being overtaken.
- With just over three months to recover, the Italian will now focus on a rehabilitation programme aimed at returning to full fitness for the Australian Open, which starts on 11 January.
