Jannik Sinner has set a new tennis milestone that Carlos Alcaraz hasn’t yet matched.

Sinner is on a 21-match unbeaten run, with titles in Indian Wells, Miami, and Monte Carlo. He’s now just two wins away from another trophy, this time in Madrid.

With Alcaraz missing the rest of the clay court season due to a wrist injury, Sinner is the clear favourite to lift the title in the Spanish capital.

Before this week, though, Sinner had never made it past the quarterfinals in Madrid. That changed when he overcame Spanish teenager Rafael Jodar to book his spot in the last four.

Sinner hits milestone with semifinal appearance in Madrid

Sinner came through against Jodar with a 6-2, 7-6(0) win to secure his first trip to the semifinals at the Madrid Open.

It’s not something Alcaraz hasn’t done—he’s won this event twice—but Sinner now holds a unique achievement his rival has yet to match.

Sinner has now made it to at least the semifinals in all nine Masters 1000 events, a mark only five others have reached before: Rafael Nadal (2009), Novak Djokovic (2009), Roger Federer (2010), Andy Murray (2015) and Alexander Zverev (2026).

Alcaraz, meanwhile, has three Masters 1000 tournaments where he’s still yet to break through past the quarterfinal stage: Canada, Shanghai and Paris.

If Alcaraz is fit later in the season, he’ll have chances to add his name to that list as well.

Jannik Sinner is closing in on a rare milestone at the Italian Open

Sinner has now reached the semifinals of every Masters 1000 event, and there’s another milestone on the horizon that only Novak Djokovic has managed before.

Madrid and Rome are the only two Masters titles missing from Sinner’s collection, and he could complete both before Roland Garros this season.

Djokovic is the only player to have won all nine Masters events, achieving it twice over his career. Neither Rafael Nadal nor Roger Federer ever managed a full sweep, despite long periods of dominance.

Nadal never won Miami or Paris, while Federer missed out on Monte Carlo and Rome.

Sinner will look to extend his streak in Madrid against Arthur Fils, who remains unbeaten on clay this year. The two have faced each other once before, with Sinner winning their previous meeting in Montpellier three years ago.
