Japan feel privileged to be playing the 1,000th match at a men's World Cup in their second group clash against Tunisia on Saturday when Hisako, Princess Takamado will attend.
"It's a great honour," Japan coach Hajime Moriyasu told a news conference at the stadium near Monterrey on Friday.
The special number means "everyone around the world" will watch the match and "that makes me so happy."
He and his players would make sure "that it will be a brilliant match that deserves to be the 1,000th game at World Cups."
Japan also want to win so that their "princess can experience the victory. So we hope we can share this joy with her."
The Samurai Blue drew their first group match 2-2 with the Dutch.
