Japan hikes visa fees as costs rise after 48 years

TOKYO: The Japanese government has decided to raise visa fees for foreign nationals by revising a related cabinet order, according to Jiji Press.The decision, made at a cabinet meeting on Friday, marks the first revision of the visa fees in 48 years, since 1978.

The fee for a single-entry visa will increase from ¥3,000 (about RM89) to ¥15,000 (about RM443), while a multiple-entry visa will rise from ¥6,000 (about RM177) to ¥30,000 (about RM885).

The new fees will apply to applications submitted on or after July 1.

Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi explained at a press conference that the change reflects rising prices, adding that he does not expect it to have an immediate impact on inbound tourism
