- The bodies of two Japanese climbers, Hidesuke Taneishi and Tetsu Hashimoto, have been found on Mount Gangapurna in northwest Nepal after being reported missing for over a week.
- Rescuers believe the pair fell nearly 900 metres down the south side of the peak after being swept away by a slab avalanche approximately 100 metres below the summit.
- The men began their ascent on 10 October and were reported missing five days later, prompting a specialised rescue operation involving experienced Sherpas and local pilots.
- The search team successfully utilised drones sent up from above 5,000 metres to spot the climbers' abandoned equipment before locating their bodies at an altitude of 6,210 metres.
- Both victims sustained severe injuries in the fall, and their remains are being airlifted to a hospital in Kathmandu for postmortem examinations before being released to their families.
