MANILA, Philippines — Philippine national swimming team standout Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh is embarking on a fresh chapter in her athletic and academic journey, officially transferring to the University of the Philippines (UP).
Mojdeh is set to serve as a pivotal addition to the Fighting Maroon, providing a powerful boost to make the squad significantly stronger for upcoming campaigns in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines.
Following her campaign at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand, Mojdeh is resetting her sights on ultimate redemption at the 2027 SEA Games in Malaysia and a impactful collegiate debut with the UP swimming team in UAAP Season 90.
To represent the Fighting Maroons, Mojdeh will complete a mandatory one-year residency requirement before making her official UAAP debut in 2027, allowing her to focus fully on training, national team qualifiers and integration with her new squad.
For Mojdeh, choosing UP was a deeply considered decision driven by a commitment to both academic excellence and athletic growth.
"I chose the University of the Philippines because I truly believe they offer the finest balance between world-class academics and elite swimming among all UAAP schools," Mojdeh shared.
Her transition to state university life has already been bolstered by strong camaraderie within the UP squad.
"During our team building, it became immediately clear that this is more than just a team—we are a family that genuinely has each other's backs, and that culture of unity made me like the school even more," she noted.
Beyond the pool deck, returning to a supportive local environment has given the national tanker much-needed grounding as she navigates high-stakes international and collegiate competitions.
"Sometimes we have to journey far to realize that everything we need to grow has always been right at home," Mojdeh reflected. "Being surrounded by my family, my longtime coaches, and teammates who lift each other up gives me the grounded perspective I need."
With a clear roadmap toward national team selection and her eventual UAAP debut, Mojdeh is entering this transition phase with renewed clarity and determination.
"As we prepare for the 2027 SEA Games national tryouts and the next UAAP season, I've learned that true athletic success comes from peace of mind and an authentic sense of belonging," she added. "I can't wait to give my all for UP and our country.” TMT
