Kota Kinabalu: Datuk Jauteh Dikun replaces outgoing Datuk Idris Abdullah as Sabah Police Commissioner (CP).

However, Jauteh who was the latter’s deputy, would only be acting in to fill the position.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani said a meeting involving all CPs will be held by the end of the week.

“We will discuss to determine those eligible as CPs for Sabah and other states where vacant command posts are in urgent need of replacements.

“There are already a few names,” he said, and congratulated Idris for over 35 years of service.

Idris, who was CP for one and a half years planned to be active in NGOs.

Speaking of Jauteh, Acryl was sure that with his experience as State Criminal Investigation’s Chief, Sabah is in good hands for now.

He reminded district Police Chiefs and Senior Officers in the handing over ceremonies on Thursday that “once you retire there is only regret”.

“Now while you are still in the system, do good to inspire positive change in your workplace and community.

“Work to achieve your fullest potential so you won’t get caught up in a ‘when I was’ regretful mentality later. It will be ugly,” he said.

The Sabah Police Family Association (PERKEP) also saw the exchange from former Chairperson, Datin Suraya Zainal to Datin Nurhayati Farhana Abdullah as acting Chairperson.

In March, both Parti Bersatu Sabah Youth Wing and Star Sabah urged that a Sabah native be appointed CP in the spirit of Borneanisation. Jauteh is from Ranau.

In 2018, Datuk Omar Mammah from Semporna was appointed CP.

Acryl also said eight Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) positions vacated following the detention of four personnel implicated in the murder of a 61-year-old e-hailing driver in January are in the process of being filled by those eligible.

“It’s all calm in the ESSCOM front now but that doesn’t mean we can slack off. The area is exposed to threats and sovereign claims from certain parties.

“Let the current peace enjoyed be a signal that security is something uncompromisable.

“We are finalising the additional two General Operations Force battalions to the existing five in Sabah namely in Kunak and Keningau.

“Infrastructure and economy is our focal point as the move of our neighbour’s capital near Sabah would impact security. Additional posts are imperative,” he said.
