
A MALAYSIA airlines flight bound for Jeddah from Kuala Lumpur was diverted to Chennai on Monday following a technical issue involving its engine, as reported by the PTI news agency.
Malaysia Airlines flight MH156, carrying 186 people, landed safely at Chennai airport, following which emergency response arrangements were activated, an airport official said.
"There was a technical issue involving Engine No.2.
"Further assessment of the aircraft and the technical issue is being carried out by the airline and relevant technical teams," a spokesperson said, adding that operations are normal.
The aeroplane was brought to the parking slot by an aircraft tow vehicle, and the passengers have been provided with accommodation at the airport.

Airport operations remained normal following the aircraft’s safe landing, the spokesperson added. – September 8, 2026
