MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has revoked the license of a jeepney driverafter he was found to be an "improper person to operate a motor vehicle."
The license of the passenger jeepney driver was perpetually revoked while the registered vehicle owner/operator faced charges for employing a reckless driver, LTO chief Markus Lacanilao said on Thursday.
The decision stemmed from a crash that killed one and injured about eight others when the jeepney lost its brakes along Rizal Avenue in Sta. Cruz, Manila on Sept. 12, 2026, Lacanilao said.
“It was also established that both the driver and the registered owner or operator of the jeepney violated regulations against operating a motor vehicle with defective parts and accessories,” Lacanilao said.
In addition, the jeepney driver also faced charges of reckless driving while the passenger jeepney remained flagged under an alarm status, he said.
Although the driver failed to appear at the hearing, the agency proceeded with the process and based its decision on the evidence on record and other documents gathered relative to the incident, Lacanilao said.
