PUTATAN: BN-Umno candidate for Tanjung Keramat, Jeffery Nor Mohamed, expressed confidence that the seat will return to what he described as the rightful Umno in the coming election.

He said voters are aware that the incumbent, Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya, although elected under the Barisan Nasional banner, no longer represents the party’s aspirations.

“Some people are still confused about where he stands. His conduct and decisions do not reflect us. He is no longer with us,” he said after a campaign rally in Kampung Pasir Putih on Friday night.

Shahelmey had previously aligned himself with GRS when Barisan Nasional attempted to topple the state government with Warisan in 2023. He was later appointed State Minister of Public Works.

Jeffery said Barisan Nasional intends to continue its push to dismantle what he claims are long-standing practices of cronyism and nepotism in Putatan.

He added that the campaign has been progressing smoothly, with encouraging support from voters as it enters the second of three phases — the launch of the “Get Out The Voters” initiative.

Earlier in his speech, Jeffery expressed disappointment that many issues and proposals, including water supply problems, were never properly addressed by the government.

“But when these matters are raised in the media, only then do they rush to fix them. Tanjung Keramat already has the necessary local authority facilities, and it is time for an efficient government to bring meaningful change,” he said.
