Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan (pic) has backed Sarawak’s Governor on Federal encroachment into state powers, saying Sabah too has long suffered under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

He said the problem extended beyond oil and environmental laws, citing the Territorial Sea Act 2012 which cut Sabah’s maritime boundary to three nautical miles, depriving the State of offshore resources.

Jeffrey, who is also Star president, added that the Fisheries Act 1985 centralised marine licensing in Putrajaya, while the Electricity Supply Act 1990 stripped Sabah of control over its own power sector.

He called for a joint Sabah–Sarawak review of federal laws that breach state rights, restoration of full revenue entitlements, including the 40 per cent net return to Sabah, and safeguards against further encroachment.

“Our rights are not a favour from Putrajaya but obligations already promised and long overdue,” Jeffrey said in a statement on Sunday.
