KOTA KINABALU: The State Government is stepping up efforts to strengthen the halal industry as a key driver of Sabah’s economy and to open wider opportunities for local entrepreneurs to access international markets.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the global halal trade is expanding rapidly, worth billions of dollars, and has become a major contributor to international commerce.
He called on all parties – the government, related agencies, private sector and business community – to work together in strengthening Sabah’s halal industry ecosystem.
Hajiji, whose speech was delivered by State Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif at the launch of MyHalal Day Sabah 2025, said the State has allocated RM5,000 in equipment aid for cottage and micro entrepreneurs who complete the food handling course run by Muis Halal Hub.
He said halal certification is not only a mark of quality and integrity but also the key to global competitiveness, and expressed hope that MyHalal Day would inspire more halal entrepreneurs and place Sabah on the map as a regional player.
