- Jenna Dewan has defended her casting on season 35 of Dancing With the Stars after fans questioned whether her long career as a professional dancer gave her an unfair advantage.
- The 45-year-old previously worked as a backup dancer before becoming an actor and starred in the 2006 dance film Step Up.
- Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Dewan said: “I do not know how to ballroom dance. Let’s be clear. It’s two different languages.”
- She added: “There’s parts of my dance training that’s helpful, obviously. I’ve learned choreography, I can perform, but there is a certain sense of unlearning for me. It’s a new technique, brand new technique.”
- The new season of the show is scheduled for a live two-night premiere on 15 September, featuring stars including Julia Stiles and Harry Shum Jr.
