JLTCB, DTI-Bataan equip first-time exporters for global trade essentials

BALANGA CITY, Bataan — In a strategic move to decentralize trade expertise and fortify the local economy, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Bataan, in collaboration with Jill L. Tolentino Customs Brokerage (JLTCB), successfully conducted a high-level executive seminar titled “Export Essentials: Documentation and Processes for First-Time Exporters” on April 13, 2026, at The Bunker.

The initiative comes at a critical juncture as Bataan continues to position itself as a premier investment hub under the provincial “1Bataan” branding. By convening aspiring and emerging exporters from across the province, the full-day session aimed to bridge the gap between entrepreneurial intent and global execution through strategic insights on regulatory compliance and logistics.

The seminar featured four licensed customs brokers from JLTCB who led in-depth discussions on the core pillars of international trade. Janelle Balagan opened the session by emphasizing the fundamentals of export transactions, specifically the necessity of documentation accuracy and proper accreditation. This was followed by Sergei Castillo, who provided a pragmatic breakdown of Incoterms, clarifying the shifting risks and responsibilities between buyers and sellers to prevent costly trade miscommunications. Maria Franchesca Lumelay further guided participants through the complex network of stakeholders involved in export operations, while Apple Nathalie Marfa concluded the technical presentations with a step-by-step roadmap of the customs clearance process.

Beyond the theoretical framework, the event served as a platform for practical application, with JLTCB professionals sharing industry “pitfalls” and best practices gained from years of field experience. Developing updates from the session suggest that DTI-Bataan plans to leverage this momentum by launching a series of follow-up “Export Clinics” throughout 2026 to monitor the progress of these newly minted traders. This ongoing mentorship is seen as vital as global trade regulations become increasingly digitized and stringent, requiring local MSMEs to stay agile and informed.

By leading these discussions, JLTCB has reaffirmed its role as a cornerstone of trade facilitation and education in the region. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to lowering the barriers to entry for Filipino products in the international market, ensuring that Bataan’s local industries are not just participants, but competitive leaders in the global supply chain. As these first-time exporters move toward their initial shipments, the localized support provided at The Bunker serves as a blueprint for strengthening the country’s overall trade position. ASH MANUEL
