Kota Kinabalu: A 40-year-old jobless man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here with trafficking 65.20gm of syabu.
No plea was recorded from Denny Marujin after the charge was read to him before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali.
Denny is accused of committing the offence at about 2.38pm on July 22 in the body scanner room at the Central Prison here.
The charge under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act, carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, with at least 12 strokes of the cane, on conviction.
The prosecution applied another mention date pending the chemist’s report and did not offer bail as the offence is non-bailable.
Wan Farrah fixed Oct 7 for mention and ordered the accused to be further remanded.
In another case, a 64-year-old Chinese national was charged with criminally threatening a fellow Chinese national.
Li Bo pleaded not guilty before Wan Farrah to committing the offence against a woman at a hotel in Jalan Gaya at about 10pm on Aug 5.
The charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code states that Li threatened the woman with the words: “I will rape your mother, I will rape your entire family”, with the intention of causing her fear.
The offence carries imprisonment for up to seven years, or a fine, or both, on conviction.
The court fixed Aug 18 for mention and ordered Li to be further remanded.
