Jobless man charged with trafficking 2,035gm syabu

Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed man was tentatively charged in the Magistrate’s Court on Friday with trafficking 2,035.26gm of syabu, last month.

Mohd Shahnizar Sukarday, 21, was accused of committing the offence at 4pm on Oct 27 at the parking area of a mosque at Kg Darau, Manggatal.

No plea was recorded from him after the charge was read to him before High Court Senior Assistant Registrar Romario Jonoi, who sat as a Magistrate.

The charge under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, carries a punishment of either the death penalty or life in prison and whipping with a minimum of 15 strokes read with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

The prosecution applied for a new mention date while waiting for the chemist’s report and offered no bail as the charge him had no provision for one.

Romario set Jan 10, 2024 for mention and ordered the accused to be further remanded.

In another case, two brothers were each fined RM25 or a day’s jail for behaving in a threatening manner with the intention to provoke the breach of peace.

Ken Pang, 30, and Alister Pang, 35, both dumplings sellers, pleaded guilty to committing the offence at a Luyang lake, near Wisma Pertanian, at 4.15pm on Oct 28.

They were jointly charged under Section 8(1)(e) of the Minor Offences Ordinance provides a fine of RM25, on conviction.

Duty Counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence, representing the brothers, requested leniency.

Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit prosecuted.
