
Kota Kinabalu: A mechanic was tentatively charged, Friday, with trafficking 50.53gm of syabu.
Chia Hao Yie, 29, who was brought before Court Registrar Rita Kunsoi allegedly committed the offence at 12.05am on Oct 1 in a unit at Phase 3, Beverly Hills, Penampang.
However, no plea was recorded for Chia.
The offence under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 carries a punishment of either the death penalty or life in prison and whipping with a minimum of 15 strokes.

The court fixed Nov 20 for mention and ordered Chia to be further remanded.
Chia was also charged with having and taking drugs as framed under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act. No plea was taken from him.
The court set Oct 13 for mention pending the chemist reports and ordered the accused to be remanded further.
Meanwhile, nine people, aged between 20 and 50 were charged with taking drugs.
However, no plea was taken from them after their respective charges were read to them under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Each charge provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail, on conviction.
The court set mention dates between Nov 13 and Nov 22 for mention of their case pending the chemist’s reports.
Rita released five of them bail at RM1,500 in two sureties each while the other four, who were undocumented, were ordered to be remanded further.
