
Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed man was jailed eight months by the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for committingmischief by cutting telecommunication cables.
Sabdalih Nahul, 44, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to cutting the cables at 9.40pm on Nov 29 at the roadside of Jalan Tuaran, here.

Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP), Ling Ghuong Zin, said police on patrol saw Sabdalih and two accomplices cutting the cables.
He said they nearly succeeded in cutting the cables but was stopped by the police which led to a confrontation between the police and Sabdalih. Sabdalih was apprehended while his two accomplices escaped.
Police arrested the suspect and seized the cable-cutting equipment and cable rolls found in Sabdalih’s car, Ghuong Zin said.
Duty Counsel Carmen Khoo, representing Sabdalih, requested a lenient sentence as he is divorcee with four children and has kidney problems. However, the prosecution applied for an adequate sentence.
In another case, a businessman was fined RM2,500 or six months jail for operating an entertainment premises beyond the permitted time.
Hiew Shun Ping, 36, pleaded guilty to operating the club ate Anjung Samudera, Waterfront, at 2.20am on Nov 30.
He was charged under section 4(1) of the Public Entertainment Ordinance 1958 which is punishable under Section 11 of the same Ordinance that provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to one year or both, on conviction.
The prosecution informed the magistrate that police found it was still operating beyond the permitted time.
The police seized the music equipment in Shun Ping’s presence.
Carmen, representing Shun Ping, requested for a lenient fine as he was a first offender. While Ghuong Zin applied for an adequate sentence.
