The wait is almost over for fans of DC’s most chaotic antihero. Peacemaker, the critically acclaimed Max Original series from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television, is officially set to return for season 2 on Friday, August 22.
Created for television by James Gunn, Peacemaker stars John Cena as Christopher “Chris” Smith—a.k.a. Peacemaker—a patriotic yet dangerously unhinged vigilante on a relentless, and often misguided, quest to achieve peace at any cost.
Season two picks up with Peacemaker attempting to come to terms with his violent past while staying true to his twisted moral code. According to the official synopsis, the new season will see Chris wrestling with a “newfound sense of purpose,” all while continuing to kick “righteous evil-doer butt” in his signature over-the-top fashion.
Returning alongside Cena are Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick, reprising their roles from the first season. The upcoming season also introduces several new faces to the ensemble, including Frank Grillo, David Denman, Sol Rodriguez, and Tim Meadows.
James Gunn, now co-head of DC Studios, penned all eight episodes of the new season and directed three of them, including the season premiere. He also returns as an executive producer alongside Peter Safran and John Cena. Additional directors this season include Greg Mottola, Peter Sollett, and Althea Jones.
Produced by Gunn’s Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company in association with Warner Bros. Television, Peacemaker is based on characters from DC Comics and continues to expand the studio’s gritty and irreverent corner of the superhero universe.
With the return of Cena’s fan-favourite performance and Gunn’s signature blend of action, dark comedy, and emotional depth, the second season of Peacemaker promises to deliver another round of boundary-pushing, genre-bending storytelling.
