Police confirm a man seen slapping a motorcyclist in a viral Taman Perling video is an off-duty officer, with an internal probe launched.

JOHOR BAHRU: Police have identified the man involved in a viral slapping incident at a Taman Perling petrol station as a policeman.

Johor Bahru Utara district acting police chief Supt Azrol Anuar Nor said the officer is attached to the district headquarters and was on leave at the time.

Initial investigations indicate the incident occurred on Jan 11 at about 6.50 pm.

The 33-second video, uploaded on Facebook, shows a male motorcyclist with a pillion rider being slapped by another man.

Azrol said police have yet to receive an official report but have identified the victim and are tracing him.

He stressed that police take any allegations of officer misconduct seriously.

An internal investigation has been initiated, with firm action promised for any breach of law or conduct.

The public was advised against speculation and urged to cooperate with information.

Azrol assured the investigation would be conducted transparently, fairly and with integrity.
