SHAH ALAM - Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) will examine the results of the 16th Johor state election in detail and conduct a "post-mortem" to identify strategic steps to strengthen the party's struggle in championing the people's agenda.

Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the party accepted the decision of Johor voters who supported Bersatu candidates in the 16 constituencies contested under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) banner.

He said a democracy that empowers the people is a crucial foundation for the country's progress.

"Overall, the total number of votes received is good and this base of support will continue to be expanded in the future.

"Bersatu also expresses its gratitude to all machinery members who worked hard to assist the candidates in the spirit of camaraderie and loyalty to Bersatu's struggle," he said in a statement on Saturday.

At the same time, Bersatu congratulated Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and Barisan Nasional (BN) on being given a fresh mandate to form the Johor state government in this election.

Earlier, the Election Commission (EC) announced BN's victory in the 16th Johor polls.

EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said that as at 10.32pm last night, BN led with 29 state seats out of the total 56.

The coalition also successfully secured a majority exceeding 50 per cent of the total seats contested.
