The battle for the Sri Medan state seat, a constituency holding 33,875 registered voters, features a three-cornered fight involving Hishamudin @ Misrin Ishak (PH-PKR), Datuk Zulkurnain Kamisan (BN-UMNO) and incumbent Ahmad Rosdi Bahari (PN-PAS). BERNAMA photo.

BATU PAHAT -  Always smiling as he listens to the concerns of residents, Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Sri Medan seat, Hishamudin @ Misrin Ishak, is taking a people-first approach in his campaign for the 16th Johor State Election.

Affectionately known as "Cikgu Misrin”, he said every issue raised by constituents would be addressed to the best of his ability, including recurring flood problems that have long affected residents in Sri Medan.

He also emphasised his principle of "work first, talk later”.

The former mathematics teacher said serving all residents regardless of political affiliation remains his priority, alongside efforts to ensure balanced infrastructure development across urban, semi-urban and rural areas.

"I do not promise luxury, but I want to ensure this constituency remains a comfortable place for all residents through better facilities, welfare and quality services.

"In terms of economic opportunities and education, I also do not want young people to be left behind. I am prepared to organise programmes and courses related to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), as well as provide greater exposure to digital education,” he told Bernama during a walkabout in Pekan Kangkar Senangar today.

He added that efforts to strengthen the development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) would also be intensified, including helping entrepreneurs expand market access so they are not solely dependent on local demand.

Hishamudin said he intends to draw on his experience in community service and act as a bridge between residents and the government, while managing administrative, welfare and local development matters.

"Serving as a village head has been an invaluable experience for me, and I hope to continue serving the people so that no one is left behind in this increasingly modern world,” he said.

Entering the third day of campaigning, he described voter response as encouraging and said it had strengthened his determination to continue engaging with residents, despite Sri Medan being widely regarded as a Barisan Nasional (BN) stronghold.

"As a new candidate and a fresh face, I will continue to stay positive and serve for the well-being and comfort of the local community,” he said.

In the 16th Johor state election, Hishamudin faces BN incumbent Datuk Zulkurnain Kamisan and Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Ahmad Rosdi Bahari.

Polling day for the Johor state election is set for July 11, while early voting will take place on July 7. - BERNAMA
