JOHOR BAHRU -Sabah UMNO will mobilise its machinery to support the Barisan Nasional (BN) campaign in the Johor state election, particularly in areas with a large number of Sabahan voters.

Sabah UMNO liaison committee chairman Datuk Jafry Ariffin said the party has been tasked with assisting the campaign in the Pasir Gudang parliamentary constituency, especially in the Permas and Johor Jaya state seats.

He said current records show that about 3,000 voters from Sabah are residing and registered as voters in Permas, while another 2,000 are in Johor Jaya.

"Four years ago, we were also assigned to these areas. Therefore, Pasir Gudang is no stranger to Sabah UMNO,” he told Bernama after visiting the Johor Zoo here today.

He said the experience gained from assisting in the 2022 Johor state election campaign would be fully utilised to ensure victory for BN candidates in areas with a significant number of Sabahan voters.

Jafry, who is also Sabah Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, said Sabah UMNO's machinery has begun moving on a small scale as part of its early preparations.

He said the campaign efforts would be carried out more extensively after nomination day to ensure the party’s message is effectively conveyed to voters throughout the campaign period.

The Election Commission (EC) has set June 27 as nomination day for the Johor state election, with polling scheduled for July 11.

The Johor State Legislative Assembly has 56 seats and, prior to its dissolution on June 1, Barisan Nasional held 40 seats, followed by Pakatan Harapan (12), Perikatan Nasional (three) and MUDA (one). - BERNAMA
