A YOUNG woman who had journeyed from another state to Segamat to meet a man she recently encountered via social media was detained with him during a hotel operation carried out by the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) late on Saturday.
The pair, both in their twenties, had taken a room booked under the woman’s name for a two-night stay.
According to JAINJ, they admitted they had only just become acquainted online before arranging to meet in person.
The enforcement team raided the room at about 10.30pm. Officers reported that upon their arrival, they knocked on the door, which was then opened by a fully dressed woman.
“She attempted to close the door again once she realised it was an inspection, but officers managed to prevent her from doing so. A man was found inside the hotel room sitting cross-legged on the floor, wearing long trousers and a T-shirt, and appearing frightened,” the department said.
A search of the room found women’s undergarments on a chair and the bed in disarray. Officers also discovered a patch of dried blood on a blanket, though “its source could not be determined”.
During questioning, the couple acknowledged that they were not married. The man, who lives and works in Segamat, is single, while the woman is an unmarried college student from Melaka and not a local resident.
JAINJ noted that investigations are continuing. - December 8, 2025
