BUKIT Kepong state assemblyman Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal has formally resigned as chairman of Perikatan Nasional (PN) in Johor, citing the resignation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as PN central chairman as the catalyst for his decision.

Speaking to the press, Dr Sahruddin said, “I hereby resign as Perikatan Nasional Johor chairman. Losing the position of Menteri Besar was one thing, but resigning as PN chairman feels even better.

“I resign as PN Johor chairman. It is straightforward: I was appointed by Tan Sri Muhyiddin, and when he steps down, I follow suit. I urge Muafakat Nasional leadership to appoint a new PN chairman in Johor.”

He emphasised that his decision does not reflect any instability within Johor, noting, “PN Johor is fine, there is no internal conflict.

“We held a meeting just two weeks ago and everything ran smoothly. My resignation has nothing to do with Johor.”

Dr Sahruddin’s move comes shortly after Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced his resignation as PN central chairman, a role he has held since the coalition’s founding five years ago.

Muhyiddin expressed his gratitude to all PN leadership in a statement, saying, “I thank the leadership of PN for their full support throughout my tenure since the coalition’s establishment.”

In Perlis, PN leadership expressed respect and appreciation for Muhyiddin’s contribution. Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, PN Perlis chairman, said, “We respect Tan Sri Muhyiddin’s decision and regard his leadership as a major success for PN.

“We apologise for any shortcomings. His service will always be remembered. May Allah bless PN Perlis.”

The resignations at both state and central levels signal a period of transition for Perikatan Nasional as it prepares for renewed political strategies and the approach of the next general election.December 30, 2025
