PUTRAJAYA - The Election Commission (EC) has set polling day for the Johor state election on July 11, while polling for the Negeri Sembilan state election will be held on Aug 1.
EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said nomination day for the Johor state election has been fixed for June 27, while nomination day for the Negeri Sembilan state election has been set for July 18.
Early voting for the Johor polls will take place on July 7, while that for Negeri Sembilan will be on July 28.
He said this at a press conference after chairing a special meeting to discuss the arrangements and key dates for the Johor and Negeri Sembilan polls here today.
Ramlan said the campaign period for both state elections has been set at 14 days, beginning after the declaration of candidates contesting the polls until 11.59pm on the eve of polling day.
He said nomination proceedings for the Johor polls will be held at 56 nomination centres, while eight nomination centres will be opened in Negeri Sembilan.
On implementation costs, Ramlan said the 16th Johor state election is estimated to require an allocation of RM86.8 million, while that for Negeri Sembilan will involve RM80.6 million.
He said the Johor polls will involve 2.7 million ordinary voters, while 867,151 individuals are eligible to vote in Negeri Sembilan.
He said that for early voting, 24,751 military and police personnel as well as their spouses are involved in Johor, while 22,339 individuals are involved in Negeri Sembilan.
"They will vote at 64 early voting centres in Johor and 38 early voting centres in Negeri Sembilan," he said.
"For postal voting matters, applications for both domestic and overseas categories for the Johor state election have been open since June 5, while for Negeri Sembilan they opened today," he said.
Ramlan said the closing date for postal voting applications for Category 1A (election workers, police, military personnel and media) is June 24 for Johor and July 15 for Negeri Sembilan.
For Category 1B (Malaysian citizens overseas) and 1C (agencies or organisations), the closing dates are June 19 for Johor and July 10 for Negeri Sembilan.
He said the EC will appoint 42,971 personnel for the Johor state election, involving 1,076 ordinary polling centres with 4,889 polling streams.
For Negeri Sembilan, 15,344 personnel will be appointed to manage 401 ordinary polling centres comprising 1,668 polling streams, he said.
Ramlan also reminded voters to check their polling centre information, stream and voter number via the mysprsemak.spr.gov.my portal, the MySPR Semak app, or by contacting the EC hotline at 03-8892 7218.
He said the EC is offering election observer appointments to government agencies, non-governmental organisations or interested bodies to monitor the election process from nomination day until the results are announced.
"They are allowed to observe at nomination centres, polling centres, counting centres and the official vote tallying centre, and must comply with all appointment conditions set by the EC," he said.
