The Johor State Assembly Speaker, Datuk Dr. Mohd Puad Zarkashi, announced today that the notification regarding the vacancy of the Mahkota state seat has been officially submitted to the Election Commission (EC). This development follows the recent passing of the seat's incumbent, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, on Friday.

Dr. Mohd Puad Zarkashi confirmed that the notification was dispatched via fax earlier this morning. "The Johor State Assembly has formally submitted the notice to the EC to initiate the necessary procedures," he stated in his announcement today.

Datuk Sharifah Azizah, aged 63, who held the position of Kluang Wanita Umno Division Chief, tragically passed away at 12:32 pm on Friday. Her death occurred while she was under medical care at the Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital (HEBHK) in Kluang. She had been admitted to the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Wednesday after experiencing severe shortness of breath.

In addition to her role as Kluang Wanita Umno Division Chief, Sharifah Azizah had a distinguished career, including her tenure as the former Johor Wanita Umno Chief. Her contributions to the political landscape in Johor were significant, and her leadership was widely recognized and respected within the community.

The passing of Datuk Sharifah Azizah has left a void in the Johor political scene, particularly within the Umno ranks. Her leadership and commitment to her constituents were evident throughout her career, making her a well-respected figure in Johor politics.

The Election Commission is now expected to take the necessary steps to address the vacancy in the Mahkota state seat. This process will include determining the timeline for a by-election and ensuring that all protocols are followed to facilitate the democratic process. The EC's role will be crucial in ensuring a smooth and transparent transition as the constituency prepares to elect a new representative.

Sharifah Azizah's passing has impacted not only her political colleagues but also the wider community, who have expressed their condolences and remembered her dedication and service. Her work in advocating for women's rights and her efforts in community development projects have left a lasting legacy.

The upcoming by-election will be a significant event for the Mahkota constituency. It will provide an opportunity for voters to select a new representative who can continue the work and uphold the values that Sharifah Azizah championed. The Johor State Assembly and the Election Commission are committed to ensuring that the by-election is conducted fairly and efficiently, honoring the democratic principles that Sharifah Azizah held dear.

As the political landscape in Johor adjusts to this change, the focus remains on honoring the memory of Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain and continuing the progress and development she strived for during her time in office. Her legacy will undoubtedly influence the future of the Mahkota constituency and serve as an inspiration for future leaders.
