TAWAU: Six individuals were detained during an integrated operation by police and the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jheains) involving inspections at the eight budget accommodation premises here last Thursday.
Tawau police chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said all six individuals detained during the Op Cegah Maksiat/Pelacuran had been handed over to Jheains for further action.
“The arrests were made after the individuals were suspected of committing offences under the Sabah Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment,” he said.
Rosdi said the operation targeted hotels and budget accommodation premises around Jalan Bakau, Jalan Masjid, Jalan Dunlop and Jalan Bunga, here.
He said the inspections also involved checking business licences and the identification documents of room occupants.
“Such integrated operations are part of the police’s ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation among enforcement agencies in the district.
“The operation is particularly aimed at curbing illegal activities and ensuring compliance with the laws and regulations,” he said.
