TAWAU: Police and the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jheains) detained six individuals during a joint operation inspecting eight budget lodging premises here on Thursday.
District police chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said the six were picked up during Op Cegah Maksiat / Pelacuran and have been handed over to Jheains for further action.
According to Rosdi, the arrests were made after the individuals were suspected of committing offences under the Sabah Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment.
The joint inspection focused on budget hotels and lodging houses situated around Jalan Bakau, Jalan Masjid, Jalan Dunlop, and Jalan Bunga to verify business licences and occupants' identification documents.
Rosdi said the integrated operation reflects ongoing inter-agency cooperation to curb illegal activities and ensure compliance with existing laws, while urging the public to channel information on unlawful conduct to authorities.
