Jonas Vingegaard issues statement on injury recovery after fracturing his collarbone

  • Two-time Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard has decided to end his 2026 season prematurely to recover from a fractured collarbone.
  • The 29-year-old Danish rider sustained the injury during stage 15 of the Tour de France while occupying second place in the overall standings behind eventual winner Tadej Pogacar.
  • His team, Visma-Lease a Bike, stated that the delayed start to his training means he cannot reach top form in time for the remaining autumn races, prompting him to focus on preparing for the 2027 season.
  • The crash occurred just hours after Vingegaard was subjected to a highly unusual 2am anti-doping test, a timing that was heavily criticised by fellow competitors including Pogacar and Remco Evenepoel.
  • Prior to his injury, Vingegaard enjoyed a highly successful campaign by winning Paris-Nice, the Volta a Catalunya, and the Giro d'Italia, becoming only the eighth male cyclist in history to complete a career set of Grand Tour victories.
