KUALA LUMPUR — The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is leaving it to Kenneth Jonassen to recommend and finalise the new singles coach following the departure of former women’s singles trainer Jeffer Rosobin.

After confirming Jonassen’s promotion to singles coaching director – with Indonesian Rexy Mainaky now overseeing the doubles department – BAM acting president Datuk V. Subramaniam revealed today that the Dane is in the process of shortlisting candidates.

“Kenneth is currently assessing potential candidates.

“We may or may not need a replacement – it depends on the requirements. We discussed this yesterday, but nothing has been finalised. It will likely take another week before we confirm our plans.

“As the head of the department, the decision is ultimately Kenneth’s.

“The management is clear on our role – we handle the administrative side of things. When it comes to coaching, technical matters, and on-court decisions, we leave it to the coaches because they know best,” said Subramaniam.

Scoop previously reported that former international Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin, currently coaching Ireland’s national team, has been strongly linked with a return to Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM).

For now, the women’s singles department is overseen by Misbun Ramdan Misbun following Jeffer’s departure last month. - March 25, 2025
