KIULU: Kiulu assemblyman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai has urged schools to include anti-bullying activities in their programmes to nurture empathy, kindness, and safe social interactions among children.
He said schools had a responsibility to teach students about the consequences of bullying, both offline and online, and to create an environment built on respect and compassion.
Joniston stressed that lessons on kindness were just as important as academic subjects, as they shaped the character and emotional well-being of children.
He also cautioned about the risks of the digital world, including cyberbullying, scams, and exposure to harmful content, reminding parents that monitoring their children’s gadget use was now a necessity.
Joniston, who is also Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister, said programmes such as the Madani Unity Camp for Uniformed Units of Sabah Primary Schools at SK Taginambur helped instil discipline, teamwork, leadership, and pride in Sabah’s cultural and natural heritage.
