Jordanian rescuers save toddler six days after Venezuela quakes

CARACAS - A three-year-old boy was rescued on Tuesday after being trapped for six days in rubble following two back-to-back earthquakes in Venezuela, Xinhua reported, citing authorities.

Acting President Delcy Rodriguez announced on social media that Klieber Moran was pulled to safety after being found alive in a building in the coastal state of La Guaira.

"Klieber's life is a source of hope for our people!" said Rodriguez, adding that the operation to save the young survivor was carried out by a rescue team from Jordan. The boy was then transported for specialised emergency medical care.

Some 75,238 families affected by the strong quakes have received assistance, with the support from more than 3,300 foreign rescue workers and 45 international delegations, along with 140 rescue dogs, 49 support vehicles and more than 700,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid, said Rodriguez.

According to preliminary official figures, the two consecutive earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 have so far killed 1,719 people, injured 5,034 and caused extensive material damage. - BERNAMA
