KOTA MARUDU: A blistering time of 13.94 seconds earned special education athlete Jorge Jevronnie Mandek of SRA Goshen a well-deserved second-place finish in the 100m L12 category at the 2026 Sabah Special Education Athletics Championships held at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu.
The impressive performance not only secured Jorge a place on the podium but also brought pride to SRA Goshen and the district of Kota Marudu by placing him among Sabah’s top special education sprinters.
His achievement underscores the growing potential of special education athletes to compete at the highest level when provided with the right opportunities, guidance and encouragement.
According to SRA Goshen athletics coach Benlee Sanior, Jorge’s success was the result of months of disciplined training, determination and unwavering commitment in preparing for the state championship.
“This achievement is more than just winning a medal. It proves that students with special educational needs possess tremendous potential when they are given the opportunity to shine. Jorge’s courage and determination to compete against the state’s best athletes are truly inspiring,” he said.
Benlee also expressed his appreciation to the school administration, fellow teachers, coaches and Jorge’s family for their continuous support in nurturing the young athlete’s talent and confidence.
“The success we celebrate today belongs not only to Jorge but also to everyone who believed in him and stood behind him throughout his journey. Their encouragement has been instrumental in helping him realise his potential,” he added.
The Sabah Special Education Athletics Championships gathered athletes from districts across the State, providing a platform for students with special educational needs to showcase their abilities and compete in various track and field events.
