Jose Medina is one of two fighters released by the UFC following the recent Mexico City event.
The event at Arena CDMX introduced several new faces to the Octagon, giving a handful of fighters their first look at the big stage.
One of them, Regina Tarin, made the most of her late notice debut, stepping in just three days before the card and picking up a win.
But while some fighters left with their stock rising, not everyone had a positive outcome. Two athletes who came up short have now been let go from their contracts.
Jose Medina let go after Dana White brought him in on a loss without consulting matchmakers
Guilherme Cruz reported on Monday that both Jose Medina and Felipe Bunes have been removed from the UFC roster following their defeats at the weekend.
Dana White had signed ‘Chicho’ in 2023 after a Contender Series loss, admitting he was not entirely sure why he was offering the contract but was moved by Medina’s determination.

“I didn’t talk to the matchmakers about this, I didn’t talk to anybody about this but I could be doing this for all the wrong reasons, I could be doing this for all the right reasons. I don’t know what the answer is right now but I’m gonna do it. I’m gonna bring Medina into the UFC,” he stated.
Medina’s 41-second KO loss to Ryan Gandra on Saturday marked his third consecutive knockout defeat.
Bunes, meanwhile, dropped a close split decision to Edgar Chairez on the main card, finishing his stint with a 1-3 record.
His debut came against Joshua Van in January 2024, where he was stopped by the current flyweight champion.
It is not yet clear if both fighters were released from their contracts or if their deals expired and were not renewed by the UFC.
