A HUMANITARIAN gesture by officers from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Kalumpang Enforcement Station has drawn widespread praise after they offered assistance to a woman and her three young children travelling on a motorcycle during heavy rain while being ridden by her husband.

The incident took place along the North-South Expressway at about 6.45pm last Thursday.

Selangor JPJ director Azrin Borhan said the officers were on patrol under the Op Hari Raya Aidilfitri operation when the incident occurred.

He said that upon reaching Kilometer 440 of the highway, the patrol team spotted a motorcycle carrying a man, his wife and their three children.

“The condition of the family concerned appeared challenging as they had to endure a journey in uncertain weather conditions without adequate protection.

“Recognising the potential safety risks, JPJ officers stopped their patrol vehicle at the roadside shoulder to check on the family’s condition.

“After speaking with the motorcyclist, the officers found that they were on their way to purchase items for the Aidilfitri celebration, but had to continue their journey despite the heavy rain due to a lack of alternative transportation,” he said.

Azrin said that out of concern for public safety and in line with their responsibilities as civil servants, the officers took the initiative to help.

“The motorcyclist’s wife and children were invited to board the JPJ patrol vehicle to ensure their safety, while the husband continued his journey on his motorcycle with caution.

“The JPJ officers then safely transported the woman and her child to their intended destination,” he said.

He added that the act reflected not only humanitarian values but also the broader role of enforcement agencies in supporting the public, particularly during festive periods.

“This incident serves as an example of how compassion and a sense of social responsibility can have great meaning for society.

“Beyond their law enforcement duties, JPJ officers are always ready to extend assistance to ensure the safety and welfare of road users are always protected,” he said. - March 23, 2026
