Judith Chalmers – host of Wish You Were Here – dies aged 90

  • Judith Chalmers, the iconic presenter of ITV’s popular travel show Wish You Were Here...?, has died peacefully at her home at the age of 90.
  • Her family announced on Friday 22 May that she passed away on Thursday evening, having lived with Alzheimer’s disease in her final years and experiencing a recent decline in health.
  • Chalmers began her broadcasting career with the BBC at just 13, going on to present shows like Family Favourites before becoming a household name as the host of Wish You Were Here...? from 1974 until 2003.
  • She famously revealed in 2008 that she always “went commando” while filming the travel series to avoid visible panty lines on television.
  • Appointed an OBE in 1994, Chalmers is survived by her husband, former sports commentator Neil Durden-Smith, and their two children, and was known for her passion for travel and family.
