The FIFA World Cup final is arguably the greatest sports show on planet earth.
There is simply nothing like waiting four years for the biggest game in soccer to determine the world champions.
Indeed, it is that relative rarity that makes the particular game so special. Legends are made in that game, with the 2022 final in Qatar arguably the best version of it thus far.
As such, the game’s governing body generally try to pull out all the stops when the date rolls around and this year’s final in New Jersey is no different.
Bieber in talks to play at World Cup final
That’s because, according to TMZ, Justin Bieber is in talks to perform at the event at the New York/New Jersey Stadium (otherwise known as the MetLife Stadium) on Sunday July 19.
The list of confirmed acts is already packed with star talent. World Cup legend Shakira will be back to perform at the Super Bowl-style half-time show, alongside Madonna and K-pop group BTS.
According to BBC Sport, the show is expected to run for 11 minutes, and Bieber could be added to the list of performers, it seems.
European soccer fans have generally voiced their displeasure at half-time shows but they have started to appear more regularly in recent years.
This, however, will be the first time that the World Cup final will have a half-time show. The laws of the sport state that the half-time interval should not run for more than 15 minutes.
The 32-year-old and his wife Hayley attended the opening ceremony in Los Angeles at the start of the tournament before the USMNT opened their campaign by beating Paraguay.
Bieber has expressed an interest in soccer and has previously been seen wearing an Arsenal FC jersey, while also showing some support for the Mexican national team at times during this tournament.
