Justin Rose stunned the golfing world when he made the switch to McLaren irons six weeks ago.

Rose has managed to remain competitive over the past few years and he’s been unlucky not to add to his tally of just one major championship title.

The 45-year-old Englishman may not be as consistent as he used to be but he is more than capable of winning the biggest tournaments on any given day.

Justin Rose came very close to winning The Masters in 2025 and 2026.

He will be confident in his ability to compete at the US Open this week.

However, will his iron play be as precise as it needs to be in order to have a chance of winning at Shinnecock Hills?

How Justin Rose feels about his McLaren irons six weeks after making the switch

Rose switched to McLaren irons at the start of May.

Since then, his best finish in five PGA Tour events has been a tie for 10th at the PGA Championship.

Rose was asked about his McLaren irons during his press conference at Shinnecock Hills on Wednesday.

And the Englishman responded by sharing his excitement about what lies ahead.

Yeah. Obviously, yeah, a new partnership, Rose said.

It looked like it popped up out of the blue, but it’s something that’s been in the works for the best part of 18 months, I suppose. It’s been a fun project.

Had a lot of input into the equipment, and I’m super excited about the outcome.

Loving the clubs. Hoping that everybody gets to experience them, because I think once you hit them, you’ll kind of see there is some really, really cool stuff happening.

I think they’re super well-designed, and there’s a few new sort of engineering tricks to them that I think give a real performance benefit. Yeah, it’s been a fun project.

Questions continue to be asked of Justin Rose

Rose has been a premium ball-striker throughout his career.

That is what made his decision to switch to McLaren irons at this stage of his career so strange.

McLaren are only just dipping their toes into the golf market.

So there is no evidence that their product is actually good enough yet.

It may well be, but we don’t know.

Hopefully Justin Rose starts to produce his best form on a more consistent basis, but until he does, questions will continue to be asked about his decision to switch irons.
