Justin Rose possesses one of the most enviable Ryder Cup records in the history of the competition.
The Ryder Cup means the world to Rose, so it should be no surprise that he has laid down the gauntlet to Jon Rahm as his power struggle with the DP World Tour continues to rumble on.
The Englishman and the Spaniard were part of Europe’s successful Ryder Cup teams at Marco Simone in 2023 and Bethpage Black in 2025 – both under the guidance of Luke Donald.
However, Rahm‘s participation at the Ryder Cup in 2027 at Adare Manor in Ireland is currently shrouded in doubt.
That’s because Rahm rejected a deal as the DP World Tour attempted to create a pathway back for LIV golfers.
Rahm wasn’t happy with the fact that he would be obligated to play six DP World Tour events alongside his current LIV schedule.
And now Rose has made it very clear what he thinks the LIV Golf star’s next step should be.
Justin Rose tells Jon Rahm what to do as Ryder Cup controversy drags on
Rose obviously wants Rahm to be part of the European team in Ireland in 18 months’ time.
The Spaniard’s participation at Adare Manor is currently in doubt, though, due to his disagreements with the DP World Tour.
The 2013 US Open champion made his stance on the matter very clear when speaking to reporters at TPC Sawgrass on Tuesday afternoon.
He was asked to give his opinion on Rahm’s current situation.
“Yeah, listen, I would like to see Jon,“ Rose said.

“How many guys, eight? The other seven did it. So obviously they did it and Jon didn’t. So I mean, there’s pretty decent precedent that the deal wasn’t outrageous that they were proposing.
“But at the same time, I would like to see Jon pay his fines for sure and be a part of the Ryder Cup. For me, obviously playing on LIV was a decision that he made and wanted to make, and fair play to him for making it and good for him.
“He’s playing good golf out there. He’s winning. He’s making a lot of money, and he’s — you know, you can’t argue, can’t knock what he’s been able to achieve out there.
“So I would just see it as a cost of doing business for Jon. Like for me, being in the Ryder Cup is more than about money. What I would say, where he may have a point is the Tour making him play extra events. Maybe he has a point there.
“So maybe there’s some middle ground where he would do his best to support the Tour as and when, but not necessarily have that hung over his head, but paying his fines is obviously step No. 1.“
Onus on Jon Rahm and the DP World Tour to reach an agreement
Rose certainly didn’t beat around the bush there.
He has made it very clear what he believes Rahm’s next move should be and now it’s over to the Spaniard.
What will he make of Rose’s comments? He has already been criticized by Rory McIlroy.
The 31-year-old LIV Golf star is a fiery character and he may not take kindly to being told what to do.
Rahm obviously wants to play in the Ryder Cup in 2027 but if common ground between him and the DP World Tour cannot be found, there is a genuine chance that he won’t be at Adare Manor.
What a massive blow that would be for the Europeans. Something will have to give, surely, and perhaps both sides need to realize that they’re cutting their noses off to spite their faces.
