MANILA, Philippines — Sen. JV Ejercito said he felt sad for half-brother fellow Sen. Jinggoy Estrada but the law must take its course.
JV and Jinggoy are sons of former president Joseph "Erap" Estrada with former San Juan mayor Guia Gomez and former senator Loi Ejercito respectively.
JV, who belonged to the minority bloc, said that some people have asked him about Jinggoy's claim that the latter was being pressured to leave the majority group.
"Bilang kapatid, bilang kasama nalulungkot ako sa nangyayari (As his brother, colleague [in the Senate] I'm sad about what was happening [to him]," Ejercito said.
"Pero sabi ko nga bilang lingkod-bayan ay kailangan hayaan nating umusad ang batas (But as I said, as public servants we should allow the law process to proceed)," he said.
Ejercito added, "Pinagdarasal natin siya na maging matatag para harapin ang akusasyon [sa kanya] (I'm praying that he'll become strong in facing the accusation [against him]."
He raised the need to uncover the truth so that justice will prevail. "That's the bottomline."
"Mahirap timbangin. Pero, siyempre may pananagutan din ako dahil ako ay halal ng taumbayan. Kaya kailangan hayaan nating ang batas na umusad (It's hard to weigh things. But, I have a responsibility because I am an elected official. That's why we need to make the law take its course)," he said.
