Kota Kinabalu: Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) Sulaman Division Chief Datuk Kalakau Untol urged the party to break away from Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), if the coalition decides not to go solo in the coming state election.

“The people of Sabah are tired of endless political games that put coalition deals above the real struggles of ordinary Sabahans. Today, I call on Star to make a clean and bold break from GRS,” said Kalakau, a former Tuaran Member of Parliament, said in a statement.

Kalakau said the people had hoped to see GRS stand on its own but were now disappointed that the coalition was partnering with Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN).

“This is causing many supporters to vent their anger on social media,” he said, warning that Star risked losing grassroots support.

He said Sabahans did not place their hopes in Star only to see it reduced to an “accessory” of a coalition driven by political survival.

Kalakau also voiced disappointment with Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) leaders who, he said, were still clinging to coalition loyalty despite the conflict of interest in working alongside PH and BN.

The former Federal Labour Deputy Minister reiterated his stand, as the PH-BN agreement signed on July 27 was a covert effort by peninsula-based parties to dominate and control Sabah’s administration and economic resources.

He suggested that if PBS chose to abandon its merger or collaboration with Star, the party should move on and regroup with other local parties.
