SANDAKAN: Kampung Pulau Shanghai in Batu Sapi has been selected as a Madani foster village to drive upgrades in basic infrastructure, public facilities, and environmental sustainability.
Launching the programme on Saturday, Deputy Human Resources Minister and Batu Sapi MP Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan said the initiative reflects the Federal Government's commitment to uplifting rural communities under the Madani Economy framework.
Khairul Firdaus said the project has already upgraded three 54.8-metre deteriorated wooden bridges into semi-concrete walkways to enhance pedestrian safety, particularly for children and senior citizens.
Upgrading works are also underway on the village community hall to provide a central venue for local gatherings and unity programmes.
A rubbish trap project was also introduced alongside the infrastructure works, with Khairul Firdaus urging villagers to stop discarding waste into the sea and maintain clean waters to protect local livelihoods.
