Member of Parliament Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal announced that the Kandi region will soon get three major bridges to be constructed at a cost of nearly Rs 20 crore, fulfilling a long-pending demand of the local residents. The bridges will be constructed over Badla Choe, Manjhi Choe and Bhangi Choe to improve connectivity and provide major relief to commuters, particularly during the rainy season.
Addressing a gathering, Dr Chabbewal said the Punjab Government has already approved the projects and released the required funds after completion of all formalities. He stated that the construction work is expected to begin within the next few days and will significantly strengthen the road infrastructure in the Kandi belt.
Highlighting the difficulties faced by residents during monsoon months, Dr Chabbewal said that overflowing choes often disrupt movement and create hardships for villagers. He added that the bridges would provide a permanent solution to the recurring problem and ensure safer and smoother transportation.
Giving details of the projects, the MP said that Rs 6.46 crore would be spent on the bridge over Badla Choe, Rs 5.93 crore on the Manjhi Choe bridge and Rs 8.11 crore on the bridge over Bhangi Choe.
Dr Chabbewal said the demand for these bridges had remained pending for years and was repeatedly raised by residents of the area. He credited the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for approving the projects and ensuring the release of funds. He also expressed gratitude to Aam Aadmi Party Convener Arvind Kejriwal for supporting development initiatives in Punjab.
He further stated that the Kandi region is also witnessing extensive road development, with several roads being widened to improve transportation facilities for residents.
