The Kansas City Chiefs could be exploring a surprising quarterback move as they look to strengthen their depth behind Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes remains firmly entrenched as the franchise’s starting quarterback.

However, recent trade discussions around a young Colts passer have reportedly drawn interest from several teams, including Kansas City.

Kansas City Chiefs linked to Anthony Richardson amid Colts trade talks

According to Evan Sidery, Indianapolis may be considering moving quarterback Anthony Richardson.

“The Colts are in trade discussions with multiple teams on Anthony Richardson, which could lead to a deal happening this weekend,” Sidery wrote.

Richardson entered the NFL as one of the league’s most intriguing young quarterbacks because of his combination of size, arm strength, and athletic ability.

If the Colts decide to move him, several teams across the league appear interested in bringing him in as either a developmental option or depth behind an established starter.

The same tweet also suggested that multiple franchises have already checked in about Richardson’s availability.

“The Buccaneers, Chiefs, Lions, Packers, Rams, and Ravens are among the teams [that have] checked in. Richardson’s value is believed to be a late Day 3 pick,” Sidery added.

For the Chiefs, a move like this would likely be focused on building quarterback depth behind Mahomes rather than creating competition for the starting job.

Kansas City has consistently prioritized maintaining reliable backup options for Mahomes as the team continues to compete for championships.

If Richardson were to land in Kansas City, he could potentially develop behind one of the league’s best quarterbacks while providing long-term upside as a backup option.
