In view of the forthcoming anniversary of Operation Blue Star and to ensure the maintenance of peace, communal harmony and public order, Kapurthala police on Tuesday launched an extensive district-wide security and vigilance operation under the leadership of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Toora, IPS.
The comprehensive exercise included intensive checking at bus stands and railway stations, area domination patrols, naka bandi operations and meetings with representatives of trade unions, farmers and the business community.
The coordinated security drive was carried out simultaneously in the district’s two major urban centres, Phagwara and Kapurthala. Superintendent of Police (SP) Madhvi Sharma supervised the operation in Phagwara, while SP Gurpreet Singh Gill led the security arrangements in Kapurthala. Senior officers remained on the ground throughout the exercise to monitor the implementation of security measures and interact with the public.
As part of the operation, police teams conducted detailed searches at bus stands and railway stations, which witness heavy public movement on a daily basis. Passengers, luggage and suspicious persons were checked while security personnel maintained a vigilant watch on all entry and exit points.
The objective was to strengthen surveillance, prevent any untoward incident and ensure a safe environment for commuters. Simultaneously, police teams carried out area domination exercises in sensitive and densely populated localities.
In Phagwara, several surprise checks were conducted at important junctions and public places as part of the district-wide security strategy. Earlier in the day, SSP Gaurav Toora held an interactive meeting with representatives of trade unions, commission agents, farmers, businessmen and members of the Market Committee at the Market Committee office in Phagwara.
